Every Child Has a Story
For 2.7 million children of inmates in the U.S., that story is filled with the abandonment, loneliness and shame that come from having a mom or dad behind bars. For many, it may also include following their parents down the same destructive road to incarceration. Breakaway Outreach provides year-round ministries for children of prisoners, shaping resilience and affording pathways toward positive outcomes. And this Christmas, you can partner with us to help meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of a prisoner’s child.
One in 28 American children lives with the shame of a parent’s incarceration; that’s one boy or girl in every classroom. You can help these children feel loved and valued—unlocking their potential for a brighter future.

How you can share Christmas HOPE with a child of an inmate:
- Purchase a gift: contact us for more info and we will give you specific age/gender demographics for gift ideas (recommended $25 gift amount per child).
- Sponsor a child(ren) with a donation. SECURE ONLINE GIVING.
- Give a summer camp scholarship as a Christmas gift: even in the winter, you can advance-sponsor a child to receive a life-changing summer camp experience.
- Volunteer at one of our Christmas parties for children of inmates (we recommend that you also purchase a gift).
- Share this need with your church family, community group, or office team. Your team may be able to host an outreach party or adopt several kids from the list.
- Spread the word over social media and help us get kids sponsored! Simply use the sharing options below.
